Spain is absolutely full of places to see and things to do. These are my top ten of all the attractions.
The Alhambra Palace - Granada
The 'Red Palace' is one of Spain's most important historical monuments and tourist attractions. After being under control, both Christian and Muslim, the Alhambra has benefited and flourished as each of its owners added more buildings. The oldest part of Alahambra is the Alcazaba, which was built on the ruins of a9th century fortress. The world famous gardens are incredibly beautiful.
La Mezquita - Cordoba
This is a Christian church, but we do not believe it at first sight, that's why it used to be a Mosque. The columns and arches have to go through to reach Catholic shrines are beautifully Arabic. The building dates back to 796 AD. If you're within 200 miles, go see it, you will not be disappointed.
BARCELONA
Revelling under the influence of Gaudi, Barcelona is one ofthe most beautiful cities in the world. Both modern and historic, yet fiercely Catalan Spanish. Connected to the high-speed train and air links excellent, this city is beautiful and accessible.
La Tomatina - Bunyol NEAR VALENCIA
This must be one of the craziest parties ever. It 's just a giant tomato fight, which takes place every August and turning the usually sleepy village of Bunyol in an asylum. The population of 9,000 swells to 30,000 during thefestival, so book early if you want to go, as every hotel and hostel puts the 'no vacancy sign months before the event. Trains run every hour is from Valencia, but take a change of clothes if you intend to use it.
SCI - SIERRA NEVADA
One of the wonderful, whimsical features that Spain can boast is sunny beaches and skiing. From the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, you can be sunbathing on the beach within an hour, and then in the skiing is water skiing in the morning and afternoon ifwe like it.
Guggenheim Museum - BILBAO
The American architect Frank O. Gehry has designed this impressive structure. He sits on a site of 32,500 meters square in the heart of Bilbao, and has become the most important icon of the city. The structure is an unusual fusion of blocks covered with scales and curves of titanium. The large La Salve Bridge actually goes through the building.
The Roman ruins - MERIDA
Can hold 6000 spectators, the Roman Theater is one of the premier placesMerida. The nearby amphitheater was the site of battles between Roman gladiators and could hold as may as 15,000 people. The political and cultural center of Rome, Hispania, Mérida was conquered by Muslims in 713 AD After a period of 500 years of decline of the city was virtually abandoned until 1500.
CUENCA
A bit 'of a hidden gem, Cuenca leave huge impression on you. Among its many impressive features are the 'hanging houses' which cling precariously to the side of thethroat. Cuenca Cathedral was built in the early 13 th century on the site of an ancient mosque. The facade had to be rebuilt in the early 20th century after the collapse of Tower Giraldillo.
TAPAS - around
But instead of Andalusia. There's nothing better to enjoy tapas with a glass of wine in the sun. The history of Tapas can be traced back to the Moorish presence in Spain between the seventh and 15th centuries AD. The Moors had a love of childrendishes with exotic ingredients such as peppers, almonds, garlic and saffron. This influenced a cross over to the Spanish culture and has become one of Spain's most famous culinary traditions.
White Villages
It's worth the time and effort to visit one of the many white villages of Spain. The south of Spain is full of these pueblos, some more accustomed to tourism than others. Keep in mind that even the busiest of the villages will be shut down at 02:00 for a nap. Of coursethe bars and cafes will remain open, so you'll just have to relax with the rest of them.
Spain has much more to offer than the suggestions I made, and as I said, this is just my opinion. The thing to do is get out there and prove yourself, you'll have much to prove me wrong.
